Thysanoptera: plantas visitadas e hospedeiras no Parque Estadual de Itapuã, Viamão, RS, Brasil

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Thysanoptera: visited and host plants at Parque Estadual de Itapuã, Viamão, RS, Brazil. The scientific knowledge about the association of Thysanoptera with native or cultivated plants in the Neotropical region is practically nonentity. This work aimed at identifying the thrips species and the plants visited by them or used as hosts in a Conservation Unit, the "Parque Estadual de Itapuã" (30°22'S 51°02'W), Viamão, Rio Grande do Sul, Southern Brazil. “…In Rio Grande do Sul it was observed on Citrus aurantium Linnaeus (Rutaceae) (BERTELS & BAUCKE 1966). PINENT et al (2003PINENT et al ( , 2005 recorded its presence in five plant species, all different from those recorded here for the same area (PEI). Frankliniella oxyura Bagnall, 1919.…”

“…2). PINENT et al (2003PINENT et al ( , 2005 also observed this thrips in PEI, referring to it as Ceratothripoides sp.1, with 93% of the individuals found on Stachytarpheta cayennensis (Richard) Vahl (Verbenaceae). Individuals sampled here differ slightly from those described by MOULTON (1933b), originally based on specimens sampled on Casearia sylvestris Swartz (Flacourtiaceae) in Espírito Santo state.…”

“…Identification keys are available only for adult females according to Moritz et al (2007). However, the presence of larval instars, pre-pupae, pupae and eggs, generally on the underside of the sepals, characterizes the strawberry as a suitable host plant, a criterion adopted by Pinent et al (2005). However, factors determining reproductive host plant for the thrips are not yet understood or poorly defined (Ripa et al 2009).…”

“…Among these species only F. rodeos have economic importance. F. simplex, despite the phytophagous habit and feeding on several cultures or spontaneous growth plants, are not associated with significant plant damage (Monteiro et al 2001;Cavalleri et al 2006;Pinent et al 2005Pinent et al , 2006.…”
