Introduction: Physical activity (PA) practice presents an inverse relation with risk factors (RF) of cardiovascular disease, with positive effects in quality of life and other physical and psychological variables. However, the benefits of daily activities have not been established. Objective: To investigate the prevalence and association of cardiovascular risk factors and physical activity in different categories of patients under a cardiac rehabilitation program. Methods: 69 participants of a cardiac rehabilitation program were evaluated and weight, height and blood pressure were checked. Afterwards, the patients answered questionnaires to assess self-reported physical activity level, stress level and verify the presence of RF. Logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratio. Results: High prevalence of RF was found in the subjects, age and hypertension were more prevalent while smoking and stress had lower prevalence. Most individuals were classified as sedentary, except for locomotion PA (LPA). Conclusion: That there is high prevalence of RF in patients attending cardiac rehabilitation programs, while sedentary ones are more likely to have the RF hypertension, obesity, smoking, alcohol and stress than the active ones, depending on the PA category.

Objective: To describe the prevalence of systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) and verify the association between psychosocial stress and systemic arterial hypertension in nursing staff. Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted in an emergency care hospital in Southern Brazil. An instrument with sociodemographic, labor, clinical data and questions of Job Stress Scale was used. Descriptive and multivariate statistics analysis was performed.Results: The prevalence of SAH was 32%. An association was shown between SAH and being considered overweight/obese, having a larger waist circumference, age and self-reported skin color. No association was found between psychosocial stress (Demand Control Model quadrants) and systemic arterial hypertension, as well as with the different levels of blood pressure. Conclusions: High prevalence of hypertension was found among nursing staff although psychosocial stress was not associate with its occurrence. Follow-up studies are needed to elucidate more clearly the influence of the workplace environment on the health-illness process of the workers.

O objetivo foi estimar a prevalência e investigar os fatores associados à pressão arterial elevada, seu conhecimento e tratamento em idosos de Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brasil. Trata-se de estudo transversal de base populacional e amostra complexa. A pressão arterial elevada foi definida pela medida do nível pressórico ou uso de anti-hipertensivo, ou diagnóstico prévio. A associação dos desfechos com as variáveis independentes foi verificada pela regressão de Poisson. Foram entrevistados 1.705 idosos. Desses, 84,6% apresentaram pressão arterial elevada, 77,5% estavam cientes da doença e 79,1% a tratavam. A prevalência associou-se à dependência funcional e idade e índice de massa corporal (IMC) elevados. Idosos do sexo feminino, idade e IMC elevados, pior percepção em saúde e consulta médica recente estavam mais cientes da doença. O tratamento associou-se a sexo masculino, dependência funcional, pior percepção em saúde e consulta médica recente. Ainda que políticas públicas em saúde devam ser universais, é preciso considerar a desigual distribuição da pressão arterial elevada na população, direcionando-se ações de prevenção, diagnóstico e garantia de tratamento.
