Abstract

A piomiosite tropical (PT) também pode ser chamada de piomiosite primária, miosite infecciosa, purulenta ou supurativa, miosite purulenta tropical, abscesso epidêmico ou miosite bacteriana 5 . Trata-se de uma infecção primária de qualquer grupamento muscular, geralmente causada pelo Staphylococus aureus. Existem 3 estágios diferentes da doença: infecção muscular difusa, formação de abscesso e sepse. O diagnóstico precoce com tratamento adequado (drenagem cirúrgica e antibioticoterapia adequada), são fundamentais para o sucesso da terapêutica. Complicações graves ou óbitos são raros, sendo que a grande maioria dos casos apresenta completa recuperação, sem seqüelas.A Sendo assim, é importante um melhor conhecimento dessa patologia no Brasil, para adequação do seu diagnóstico e tratamento. Nesse artigo relatamos 4 casos de piomiosite tropical, que, em alguns aspectos, se mostraram diferentes do encontrado na literatura, principalmente em relação à gravidade e às complicações. ABSTRACT Tropical pyomyositis is a primary infection of the skeletal muscles, that occurs mainly in tropical countries. At onset its manifestation is nonspecific, thereby hindering the diagnostic. The natural history of this disease is commonly benign, with rare complications. This presentation describes four cases of pyomyositis with peculiar manifestations and complications.
