Abstract: The authors discuss male circumcision as a protective factor against HIV transmission. The absence is noted of Brazilian data published in the international literature regarding this issue. Finally, it is emphasized that self-declared circumcision status is subject to substantial misclassification with the generation of biased risk estimates.
