Abstract: SUMMARYAfter detecting the death of Howlers monkeys (genus Alouatta) and isolation of yellow fever virus (YFV) in Buri county, São Paulo, Brazil, an entomological research study in the field was started. A YFV strain was isolated from newborn Swiss mice and cultured cells of Aedes albopictus -C6/36, from a pool of six Haemagogus (Conopostegus) leucocelaenus (Hg. leucocelaenus) mosquitoes (Dyar & Shannon) collected at the study site. Virus RNA fragment was amplified by RT-PCR and sequenced. The MCC Tree generat… Show more

“…Howler monkeys (Alouatta) were the most affected genus by YFV in our sampling, as previously reported in Brazil and Argentina [51][52][53][54][55]. Even so, we did not find antibodies against YFV in the captured howlers, even in those animals tested during the outbreak.…”

“…Indeed, H g. leucocelaenus has been proven to play an important role in the transmission of sylvatic YFV as well as other human-infecting arboviruses across the Americas [36,39,47,48]. This mosquito has been incriminated as the primary vector in the recent YFV epizooties and epidemics reported in Southern and Southeastern Brazil [49,50]. Notably, both H g. leucocelaenus and Ae .…”

“…h In Buri, it was possible to identify the virus in humans, NHP and in mosquitoes, which made it possible to complete the epidemiological chain associated with this form of the disease. 20 The hypothesis of urban transmission of YF was raised in Piraju due to the large number of human cases in an area with Ae. aegypti.…”
