Prevalência da soropositividade do anti-HCV em pacientes dialisados

Abstract: This cross-sectional study evaluated the prevalence of anti-hepatitis antibodies and associated factors in dialysis patients. Data were collected from records of all patients receiving dialysis treatment [n=1,261] in the city of Porto Alegre, in Southern Brazil, from August to December 2003. The statistical analyses used were Chi-square and the linear tendency test. Prevalence ratios were also calculated. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed through Cox regression. The prevalence of antihepatit… Show more

“…It is very similar to the study by Leão et al (2007), in which 10.7% were described in Juiz de Fora-MG (9,13) . However, when compared to data for the general population (1.38%), this seroprevalence of hepatitis C found in patients with renal failure undergoing hemodialysis is considered high (14,15) .…”

“…The prevalence of hepatitis C observed in the present study (10.17%) may be considered low when compared to the survey by Gomes et al (2006), which reported 29.1% of HCV infection in dialysis patients in Porto Alegre-RS. It is very similar to the study by Leão et al (2007), in which 10.7% were described in Juiz de Fora-MG (9,13) .…”

“…In addition, it must be highlighted that the dialyzer should only be reused 12 times, according to directive n.82/GM (2000) from the Ministry of Health [4]. All three of the units that were assessed followed the rules of the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) RCD n.154 related to the reuse of dialyzers and to the attending of patients with reactive hepatitis B and C and HIV [28,29].…”

“…Patients in dialysis units have been shown to have a higher risk for HCV infection compared with the prevalence of the antibody in groups of blood donors [3,4], which may contribute to the nosocomial dissemination in dialysis centers. There are several factors that are particularly related to the high prevalence rates, such as blood transfusions and the length of time that the patient has been undergoing hemodialysis [5,6].…”
