Background: The evaluation of quality of life in cancer patients is of interest to researchers due to its impact on health policies. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of life of patients with breast and gynecological cancer, undergoing chemotherapy. Methods and Findings:This was a quantitative, descriptive and longitudinal study, conducted in the Clinical Hospital of the Triangulo Mineiro Federal University. To assess the quality of life, the Portuguese brief version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHO-QOL-BREF) instrument was applied. The paired Student's t-test was used for the analysis of the means of/ the scores of the domains. The study included 14 women. The lowest means were observed in the physical domain, 51.78±15.89 and 50.25±15.37, respectively before and after treatment. There was also a compromise of the psychological and environment domains, however, the data analyzed did not show statistical significance. The main limitation of this study is the sample size.

A eficácia do milnaciprano em pacientes ambulatoriais com transtorno depressivo maior não respondedores ao tratamento com ISRSs: um estudo aberto de 12 semanas Abstract Background: The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of milnacipran in outpatients experiencing severe MDD non-respondent to adequate time and dosing of SSRI therapy. Methods: A 12 week multi-centric study open study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of milnacipran after a SRRI trial failure. Complete remission (HAMD-17 < 8) was the principal outcome. Secondary outcomes were response (HAM > 50%), CGI and quality of life measure (WHOQOLBref). Results: The mean HAMD-17 score of the sample was 27 (7.2). The remission rates for minalcipran were 17.5% and response 61.3%. At baseline, 70.9% of the patients were markedly or severely ill. At treatment end, 48.1% of the patients were normal asymptomatic or borderline and 20.2% were mildly ill. Also, the four domains of WHOQOL-Bref, a generic instrument of Quality of Life, presented statistical and clinical differences. Discussion: Our findings suggest that milnacipran is a possible option to be used in patients that were non-respondents to SSRIs. Since there is no evidence in literature that one single antidepressant is the best second step when an SSRI fail, milnacipran should be considered in the case of severe depressed patients.

ObjectiveTo assess menstrual hygiene management (MHM) and period poverty in a group of low‐ and medium‐income menstruating people.MethodsA cross‐sectional study was conducted at the University of Campinas, Brazil, from January to June 2022 with 535 participants aged 18–49. For data collection, we used the abbreviated version of the WHO Quality‐of‐Life questionnaire (WHOQOL‐BREF) and a pre‐tested questionnaire with items regarding MHM and period poverty.ResultsWe found an inverse relationship between the risk of no access to supplies to perform menstrual hygiene, which increased by 2.5% and each point less in the environmental domain of quality of life (QoL), and this risk increased by up to 3.1 times among participants who reported difficulty making ends meet. The risk of not having adequate conditions to perform menstrual hygiene at home increased by up to 2.6% for every one‐point drop in the environmental domain of QoL. The risk of not having adequate conditions to perform menstrual hygiene outside the home increased by up to 1.3% for less points in the psychological domain of QoL, and 44.4% of those who indicated inadequate conditions for menstrual hygiene reported two or more childbirths.ConclusionsMenstruating people who have an increased risk of lacking menstrual supplies and have an increased risk of inadequate conditions for MHM at home and outside the home, as well as those who have two or more deliveries and those having difficulties making ends meet, scored low on the QoL, especially in the environmental and psychological dimensions.
