“…Occupational data on asbestos exposure and its health effects are scarce in Brazil. The ®rst case report of asbestosis was published in 1975 [Nogueira et al, 1975] followed by a clinical description of 14 cases of the disease among bene®t claimers in the State of Sa Äo Paulo [Costa, 1983].
