Desafios à implantação do centro de leitura de eletrocardiografia no ELSA-Brasil

Abstract: Electrocardiography is an established low-cost method of cardiovascular assessment, utilized for decades large epidemiological studies. Nonetheless, its use in large epidemiological studies presents challenges, especially when seeking to develop a reading center. This article describes the process, diffi culties and challenges of implementing an electrocardiogram reading center in Brazilian Longitudinal Study for Adulth Health (ELSA-Brasil). Among the issues discussed, we have emphasized: the criteria for sele… Show more

“…ECG was performed in each center following a previously established protocol, 9 using a Burdick Atria 6100 device calibrated at 10 mm/mV and speed of 25 mm/second. Results were electronically transferred to a reading center located in Belo Horizonte and stored in an electronic database for posterior automated reading by the Glasgow ECG analysis program 14 and codification by the MC.…”

“…A comprehensive clinical data database of Brazilian adults was constructed from baseline examinations (2008-2010), and these data were correlated with their electrocardiographic parameters. 9 Participants considered free of HD were selected for the present study.…”

“…Participants had their ECG recorded in the six different research centers according to a standardized protocol 12 , using the Burdick Atria 6100 machine, with a paper speed of 25mm/second and a calibration of 10mm/mV. Digital data were acquired with simultaneous acquisition of 12 high-frequency leads (>500 samples/second per channel), high-resolution thermal print in 10 seconds.…”

“…12 The study sites developed standard procedures for performing complex assessment as well as provided training and certifi cation of their staff in testing and result reading. 6,10,15 The results of medical assessments and measurements including electrocardiograms, 18 echocardiography, retinography, pulse wave velocity, and abdominal and vascular ultrasound are coded and data is transferred to the ELSA-Brasil reading centers. There are seven biorepositories to ensure safe storage of biological samples (urine, serum, plasma and DNA) collected from subjects.…”
