Abstract: Vocal process granuloma is a disease whose etiopathogenesis is not well defined. Therefore, its clinical and surgical treatment is not standardized and its therapeutic results depend on the hospital where it is seen. Aim: Aiming to characterize patients with vocal process granuloma treated in our hospital, the therapeutic approach used and clinical evolution. Material and method: We performed a retrospective review of records. Results: We found more male vocal process granuloma, except when associated with lar… Show more

“…Thus, these actions should be contained after extubation to avoid lesions from developing. Lemos et al 2 demonstrated the importance of controlling gastroesophageal reflux, inflammation, and voice abuse in the treatment of laryngeal granulomas, regardless of their origin. These authors attained significant remission of granulomas after medical therapy during 2 to 4 months; treatment included using proton pump inhibitors, inhaled corticosteroids and speech therapy.…”

“…Among these etiological factors, endotracheal intubation, voice abuse and acid laryngitis are the most relevant, which underlines the need for investigating these possibilities in the clinical history. 1 , 2 Specific laryngeal granulomas, secondary to specific granulomatous diseases of the larynx, such as tuberculosis, blastomycosis, leprosy, leishmaniasis, syphilis, and other, should also be taken into account. 1 This study will focus mainly the intubation granulomas.…”

“…Further risk factors for granuloma formation include the tube size, the individual larynx configuration, tube movement, the type of intubation and gastro-esophageal reflux. The duration of intubation does not seem to be relevant, at least if it is less than 3 days [115]. …”

“…Em relação às características vocais, a emissão é grave, tensa, com ataque vocal brusco e forte intensidade. O fechamento glótico geralmente é completo, pois o granuloma localiza-se na região posterior, na porção cartilaginosa das pregas vocais, e o ataque vocal brusco acomoda os tecidos da laringe favorecendo a coaptação glótica, não ocorrendo disfonias, exceto em lesões de grande volume 47,50 .…”
