Abstract: A surdez súbita se caracteriza como uma surdez sensorioneural de aparecimento abrupto e sem causa conhecida. Seu acometimento é quase sempre unilateral, sendo acompanhada de zumbidos em aproximadamente 80 por cento dos casos e de tonturas em 30 por cento. O diagnóstico diferencial inclue algumas doenças infecciosas, hematológicas, neurológicas e, principalmente, o schwannoma vestibular.
