Show more

“…The projection of the parasphenoid plate over the most caudal part of the rostrum parasphenoid was similar to that described for Ciconiiformes (FERREIR;DONATELLI, 2005) and for individuals of the family Nyctibiidae (Caprimulgiformes) (COSTA;DONATELLI, 2009).…”

“…The presence of two condyloid processes were observed for Amazona aestiva in the present study. The quadrate otic process was similar to that described in the literature in birds such as Bucconidae (Piciformes) (LADEIRA; and Nyctibiidae (COSTA;DONATELLI, 2009). The rostromedial direction of the orbital process, that is thin and elongated, has also been described in the literature for Megaxenops parnaguae (Passeriformes) .…”

“…There are four distinct small foramina grouped next to the optic foramen (laterally and ventrally). Descriptions in other species suggest that these provide passage to the oculomotor (CN III), trochlear (CN IV), ophthalmic (branch of CN V), and abducent (CN VI) nerves 12,14,42,43 . Different authors point out that, in several species of birds, the large lateral part of the palatine bone plays a role in the ventral protection of the globe against the impact of prey in the palatal region 42,43 …”
