RESUMO.Objetivou-se estabelecer a tipologia estrutural dos sistemas forrageiros (SIFs) em 57 unidades de produção rural cearenses localizadas no semiárido. Dezoito variáveis sobre utilização de superfícies, unidades e cargas animais, instalações e mão-de-obra foram submetidas à Análise de Componentes Principais e Cluster, o que permitiu identificar os fatores e estabelecer a tipologia. Dez grupos de estrutura de SIF se diferenciaram por sua base em recursos forrageiros de caatinga e pelo pastoreio de pequenos ruminantes. Somente os tipos estruturais dos Grupos 2, 5 e 10 (52,30% das unidades de produção), por desfrutarem dos cultivos forrageiros específicos hídricos e de sequeiro, além de caatinga e restolho, podem estabilizar menor intensidade de pastoreio de suas áreas e, portanto causarão menor impacto potencial no deterioro da estrutura de seus SIFs. As condições de melhoria forrageira para os Sistemas de Baixa presença de Caatinga ou Ausência da mesma (G4 e G3) devem basear-se no melhor aproveitamento de suas superfícies em restolhos de cultivos e em cultivos forrageiros específicos hídricos.Palavras-chave: Caatinga, pastoreio, zootecnia.
ABSTRACT. Forage systems in the semiarid of Ceará State: structural typology.The objective of this study was to establish a structural typology of forage systems for 57 rural households in the semiarid region of Ceará state, Brazil. Eighteen variables regarding surface distribution, animal units and stocking rates, buildings and labor availability were submitted to PCA and Cluster analysis. Ten structural forage groups were differentiated based on Caatinga autochthonous forage resources and by goat and sheep pasturing. Only the structural types of Groups 2, 5 and 10 (52.30% of the rural households) could stabilize a lesser pasturing intensity of their areas -as they enjoy specific hydric and dry land forage cultivations, in addition to Caatinga and stubbles -and would therefore cause minor potential impact in the structure of their forage systems. The improving conditions for low Caatinga Importance and no-Caatinga systems (G4 and G3) must be based on optimum exploitation of their stubble surfaces and on specific hydric forage cultivation.
