ResumoO trabalho foi desenvolvido com objetivo de avaliar a produtividade de grãos, a adaptabilidade e estabilidade fenotípica de cultivares e linhagens de soja de ciclos precoce e médio. Os ensaios foram conduzidos em Viçosa, Florestal, São Gotardo e Rio Paranaíba, no Estado de Minas Gerais, em dois anos agrícolas. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental em blocos completos com as cultivares e linhagens de soja distribuídas ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Foram obtidos os índices de rendimento relativo aos padrões (cultivares) e empregados os métodos de Annicchiarico e Centróide para análise da adaptabilidade e estabilidade fenotípica. A interação genótipos, locais e anos (GxLxA) para produtividade de grãos foi significativa e, com base no R 2 , detectou-se que o comportamento diferencial dos genótipos em relação aos locais (R 2 = 50,17%) foi mais pronunciado do que em relação aos anos agrícolas (R 2 = 13,81%). A linhagem CS 801 apresentou adaptabilidade à ambientes de alta tecnologia, superando inclusive a produtividade dos cultivares padrões utilizados. As cultivares CAC-1, UFV-16, UFV-19 e as linhagens CS 801, CS 802 e UFV98 700739 foram classificadas como de adaptabilidade geral. The experiments were carried out in Viçosa, Florestal, São Gotardo and Rio Paranaíba, in the Minas Gerais State, in two agricultural years. We used the experimental design of blocks completely with treatments allocate at random, in four repetitions. Wasobtain the production relative index to the patterns (cultivar) and employed the Annicchiarico and Centroid methods for adaptability and stability fenotipic analyzes. The genotypes x environments x crop seasonsinteraction (GxLxA) for yield grains was significant and, for the R 2 , it was detected that the differential performance of the genotypes in relation to the environments (R2 = 50,17%) it was bigger than in to the crop seasons (R2 = 13,81%). The lineage CS 801 showed adaptability to high-tech environments, surpassing the productivity of standards cultivars used. The CAC-1, UFV-16, UFV-19 cultivars and CS 801, CS 802 and UFV98 700,739 lineage were classified as general adaptability.

A knowledge of the mechanisms of resistance present in genetic materials should help breeding programs in developing cultivars resistant to insects. The biology of Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) was studied on leaves of four soybean genotypes with different degrees of resistance to insects. The genotypes evaluated were cultivars IAC 17 and IAC 24, resistant to defoliators and stink bugs, line PI 229358, a source of multiple resistance to insects and used as parent in various lines selected for resistance to A. gemmatalis, and 'IAC PL-1', the susceptible control. The experiments were carried out in the laboratory, under controlled conditions of temperature (25 ± 2ºC), relative humidity (60 ± 10%) and photoperiod (14h). First instar larvae were placed in Petri dishes and fed leaves of each genotype, detached from plants at the R1 and R2 stages (beginning and full bloom). Later on, insect couples were maintained in 25 PVC cages to evaluate parameters of the adult stage. 'IAC 17' and 'IAC 24' promoted low viability of the larval, pupal, and egg stages, causing adult deformation and a reduction of the number of eggs per female. PI 229358 prolonged the immature stage and reduced pupal weight, egg viability, and adult longevity. Considering all tests, 'IAC 17' and 'IAC 24' were characterized as having antibiosis-type resistance, and 'IAC PL-1' demonstrated to be a genotype suitable for insect development.

The use of soybean cultivars resistant to insects and diseases reduces the application of pesticides, decreasing production costs and promoting a sustainable agriculture. The damage of stink bugs and defoliators and the severity of powdery mildew (Microsphaera diffusa) in soybean of three maturity groups were evaluated under field conditions, at Tarumã and Ribeirão Preto, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Three experiments, one for each group, were carried out in the 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 growing seasons. In 1999/2000, the disease occurred in Tarumã; in that year, infestation of chrysomelids (Cerotoma sp. and Colaspis sp.) was observed in Ribeirão Preto. Low infestations of stink bugs occurred in both years and locations, but in Tarumã, at the stage of plant maturation, the insect population exceeded the economic injury level. The severity of powdery mildew was evaluated using a scale varying from 1 (no symptom) to 5 (more than 50% of leaves with symptoms). Chrysomelid injuries were estimated by the percentage of leaf area removed, and stink bug damage was evaluated by the percentage of leaf retention (LRP) and yield. Within the early maturity group (110 days), IAC 94-2675 showed good yield levels, low LRP, and resistance to powdery mildew. In the genotypes of the 120-day maturity group, IAC 94-5, IAC 94-1172, IAC 94-1017, IAC 94-133, and IAC 94-745 presented good yield; the last two behaved as resistant to the disease. With regard to the genotypes of the 135-day maturity group, IAC 93-1564 and IAC 94-2939 showed good yield, low LRP, and resistance to powdery mildew.
