Abstract: RESISTANCE OF EUPHORBIA HETEROPHYLLA L. BIOTYPES TO ALS ENZYME INHIBITOR HERBICIDES USED IN SOYBEAN CROPHerbicides are the main tool for weed control in soybean crop, but the selection pressure attributed to the repeated application of the same herbicides and the same mechanism of action can induce selection of resistant biotypes, such as occurred to Euphorbia heterophylla L. in relation to ALS enzyme inhibitors, in areas of the Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul States, in Brazil. In order to verify possible new ca… Show more

“…Although these products have brought unquestionable gains to agriculture, their use increases production cost, reduces crop quality (resulting in less healthy plants and more expensive food) and, contaminates the environment, which is a threat to human and livestock health (Silva et al 2005). Furthermore, the continued use of herbicides has led to a selection of resistant weed biotypes, on which a commercial dose of herbicide has a limited eff ect (Gelmini et al 2001). Th erefore, there is a growing demand to replace synthetic herbicides with environmentally friendly weed control.…”
