Abstract: -Liver diseases are responsible for metabolic and cardiorespiratory alterations. The objective of this paper is to correlate the maximal oxygen uptake (VO 2max ) and respiratory muscle strength and evaluating the quality of life in liver transplant candidates.Cross-sectional study consisted of 26 patients with cirrhosis who underwent maximal exercise testing, respiratory muscle strength and SF-36. There was a correlation of VO 2max with MIP (r = 0.61) and low scores of quality of life. A correlation of VO 2max… Show more

“…The majority of patients awaiting LT are susceptible to frailty, muscle wasting, and functional decline, which in turn, renders them highly vulnerable to worsening liver failure, associated morbidity (ie, sepsis), hospitalization, and premature death both before and after LT . To improve the patient's function and HRQoL before and after transplantation, a training exercise for patients awaiting solid organ transplantation is recommended .…”

(8)(9)(10)(11)31,32) To improve the patient's function and HRQoL before and after transplantation, a training exercise for patients awaiting solid organ transplantation is recommended. (33,34) Despite some experience of physical activity programs in the setting of lung and cardiac surgeries, (34) there remains a paucity of studies and no standardized exercise programs prior to LT.…”

“…In a previous analysis conducted by our group, we described two pilot studies that correlated the severity of cirrhosis with functional capacity and respiratory muscle strength. In these studies, we demonstrated that disease severity was inversely correlated with the respective variables [ 11 , 12 ].…”
