“…Vision-related quality of life assessment tools [1][2][3][4] can be used to quantify the benefit of refractive surgery [5][6][7][8] and contact lens (CL) wear modalities, [9][10][11] including continuous wear [12][13][14] and corneal refractive therapy (CRT). [15][16][17] In the last decade, the vision care professional community has increased their interest in developing appropriate quality of live instruments to assess the benefits to choose one or another therapeutic alternative for the correction of refractive error.…”

“…21 Conversely, other authors found the NEI-RQL-42 questionnaire to be deficient for any psychometric properties tested. 19,25 Several studies have been carried out with the purpose of assessing the visual-related quality of life of subjects who underwent refractive surgery, [5][6][7][8]18,24,26 CL 10,11,15 or spectacles. 8,19,20,27 However, there is little information available about the comparison of refractive surgery against other options such as continuous wear of CL or CRT, or between these treatments against others such as daily wear of CL or spectacles or even emmetropes.…”

“…In both cases the pupil role on the final outcome was questioned only in those cases where any post-surgery visual complaint was present and could not be explained despite of the final surgical outcome be considered satisfactory (7,8) . Although the use of questionnaires to evaluate visual function and life quality quite common in ophthalmology worldwide, the use of a specific type of questionnaire trying to correlate the pupillary closure curve in patients underwent laser keratorefractive surgery have never been described in national literature (9,10) . We verified at all scales of VQF 25, as well as on the overall scale, a statistically significant increase in scores post-surgery, indicating an improvement on the life quality, in many aspects assessed by the questionnaire.…”

“…Desde quando começou a ser praticada, a cirurgia refrativa convencional tem apresentado resultados promissores em relação à acuidade visual e qualidade de vida do paciente (7) . Em 1999, uma nova tecnologia surgiu com o advento de lasers baseados em análise de frente de onda e proporcionou a avaliação de aberrações de alta ordem antes não conhecidas, com a promessa de que a correção destas aberrações proporcionaria uma melhor qualidade visual aos pacientes.…”
