Abstract: Amiodarone (AM)-induced thyrotoxicosis (AIT) is a condition with uncertainties from the diagnostic and therapeutic standpoints. A 54-year old male was referred to the hospital due to thyrotoxicosis. He had history of atrial fibrillation medicated with AM. No history of pre-existing thyroid disease was present, thyroid palpation revealed no goiter, and there were no signs of Graves' ophthalmopathy. Thyroid autoantibodies and thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibodies (TRABs) were negative. Thyroid and Dopp… Show more

“…MIBI scintigraphy was able to completely differentiate AIT 1 from AIT 2 and was superior to other diagnostic tools . MIBI scintigraphy was also superior to colour‐flow Doppler sonography (which suggested AIT 2), in a report of a patient with mixed AIT . Quantitative thyroid‐to‐background activity ratios on a time activity curve improve the agreement between MIBI reporters from 47% to 80% in the differentiation between type 1, 2 or indeterminate AIT types, and therefore the diagnostic accuracy.…”

However, the patient numbers studied so far are small (n = 15).…”

“…In general, DM consequences affect various systems, organs, and tissues [4,8,9,10,11], being therefore difficult to predict in the exact consequences of the disease, as genetic, nutrition, environment, and other factors are different in each individual [10,11]. With these constraints, several animal models have been developed, aiming at assessing the causes and consequences of DM, in order to achieve effective and safe treatments.…”

“…When the qualitative assessment suggests a mixed form, Censi et al in 2018 recommended applying the TBR: a value below the cut-off of 0.482 is indicative of AIT-2, while a higher value suggests a genuine mixed type of thyrotoxicosis [8]. Few case reports and studies have been documented in the literature regarding the utility of 99m -STS in AIT, but no large prospective studies have been established yet [21][22][23][24] (Table 3). ere are some advantages of 99m -STS in comparison to CFDS and RAIU.…”

“…-STS seems to be better than Tc-99m pertechnetate for the scintigraphic evaluation of the thyroid in euthyroid and hyperthyroid patients. Souto et al [22] Case report 1 patient Portugal 99m -STS used to diagnosis undetermined AIT. -STS combined with the TBR proved a very useful approach to the classification of AIT, enabling patients to be offered appropriate treatment as soon as they are diagnosed.…”
