Apo B/Apo A-I ratio in central and peripheral arterial diseases

Abstract: Background: The apo B/apo A-I ratio represents the balance between atherogenic particles, rich in apo B, and the antiatherogenic ones, apo A-I rich. This study investigated the association between atherosclerotic diseases in different anatomical sites and apo B/apo A-I ratio. Methods: Lipids, lipoproteins, and apolipoproteins A-I and B were assessed in 30 subjects with coronary artery disease (CAD), 26 with ischemic stroke (IS), 30 with peripheral arterial obstructive disease (PAOD), and 38 healthy subjects (c… Show more

“…Similar observation was also reported by other. 12 It is to be noted that the levels of serum apolipoproteins seem to be lower in Indian population as compared to those reported from the West. 8 Our data suggests that apart from measuring conventional lipid profile to ascertain the risk of coronary artery disease, it is also essential to estimate serum Apo A-I, Apo B and Apo B/A1 ratio.…”

“…Current reports suggest that cholesterol balance, determined as the apoB/apoA-I ratio has repeatedly been shown as a better marker than lipids, lipoproteins and lipid ratios (Lima et al, 2007). As shown in Figure 3, G-400 treatment significantly reduced apo B/apo A ratio, indicates the efficacy of the drug as a hypolipidemic agent as well.…”

“…The elevated apoprotein A, an integral protein of HDL and declined apoprotein B, an integral apoprotein of LDL in G-400 treated rat blood signify the antiatherogenic effect of the drug as previous study showed that apoB/apoA-I ratio represents the balance of proatherogenic and antiatherogenic lipoproteins (Lima et al, 2007). Current reports suggest that cholesterol balance, determined as the apoB/apoA-I ratio has repeatedly been shown as a better marker than lipids, lipoproteins and lipid ratios (Lima et al, 2007).…”

“…The diabetic patients in this study present a tendency to decrease the Apo B/Apo AI ratio after argan oil intervention, while they have showed an elevated Apo B/Apo AI ratio at baseline as in patients with metabolic syndrome, coronary artery disease, and with ischemic stroke [54, 55]. …”
