Abstract: 572Arq ABSTRACT Effect of Zinc Supplementation on Urinary Zinc Excretion of Patients With Type 1 Diabetes. The effect of oral zinc (Zn) supplementation was investigated in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (DM1), evaluating their metabolic control and urinary Zn concentrations. Twenty DM1 patients were compared with a control group (n=17); the metabolic control included fasting glucose levels, 24h urinary glucose levels and HbA1c. Zn concentrations were measured in 24h urine before (T1) and after (… Show more

“…The study recently conducted by Sena et al [25], in its turn, shows a positive correlation between the parameters analyzed in patients with type 1 diabetes. According to these authors, as time of disease increases, the body looses compensating effects, and the ability to maintain zinc excretion becomes adequate.…”

“…In this discussion also, another relevant aspect concerns the circadian variation of urinary zinc excretion; according to Sena et al [25], there is a heterogeneity because of this variation, a common characteristic of diabetes, independent of the amount or type of ingested zinc. Metabolic control evaluation parameters may be related to hyperzincuria [4].…”
