Objective: To compare the modalities of treatment for male hypogonadism available in Brazil. Methods: Thirty-two men with late-onset hypogonadism ("andropause") were followed-up in the Hospital de Guarnição de Florianópolis, in Florianópolis, south Brazil. Clinical diagnosis was established according to AMS questionnaire (positive if equal to or higher than 27 points), and laboratorial diagnosis was made through low values of total testosterone (under 300 ng/dL) and/or free calculated testosterone (under 6.5 ng/dL). Patients were randomized to three nonenteral treatment groups (Deposteron ® -11 patients; Durateston ® -11 patients; and Nebido ® -10 patients). Results: Clinically, Nebido ® seemed to be superior when compared to Deposteron ® (mean value of improvement percentage; p = 0.03) and when compared to Durateston ® (posttreatment average AMS score; p = 0.03). According to laboratorial analysis, Nebido ® showed higher testosterone levels than Deposteron ® and Durateston ® (p < 0.001). Conclusions: All nonenteral testosterone formulas available in the Brazilian market are efficient in raising testosterone levels and in clinical improvement of hypogonadal patients. This study focuses on the construction of male hormonal decline relating to aging as part of a more general process of medicalization of male sexuality and aging. In order to accomplish this objective, 14 websites of pharmaceutical laboratories that sell drugs for male sexual health and seven websites of medical-scientific associations focusing on male sexual health were surveyed. We used the images found on these sites as analysis material. Based on our analysis, we discuss the existence of a partnership between the medical-scientific associations and the pharmaceutical industry, which tends to present male aging as a medical problem and promotes hormone replacement therapy (HRT) with testosterone as a way of treating it. This therapy is also presented as a means to recover happiness, productivity, "quality of life" and wellbeing.

ResumoHá pouco mais de dez anos, um novo paradigma para algumas disciplinas forenses foi pela primeira vez descrito. Nesse novo modelo, o arcabouço Bayesiano para avaliação da evidência foi proposto como um modelo teórico comum para a interpretação da evidência. Nos exames de Comparação Forense de Locutor, os esforços para a adoção dessa abordagem já haviam sido iniciados bem antes do novo paradigma proposto, seja na metodologia automática, seja na metodologia combinada clássica. No Brasil, onde se tem optado pela adoção de um modelo binário de decisão e pela adoção de uma escala clássica de probabilidades para expressão dos resultados, os peritos têm, no arcabouço bayesiano, uma boa alternativa. A adoção desse arcabouço requer, porém, a obtenção de uma base de dados suficientemente representativa. O objetivo do presente artigo é fazer uma revisão do arcabouço teórico bayesiano nas metodologias utilizadas em Comparação Forense de Locutor, bem como propor um esboço de uma base de dados de fala forense a ser utilizada no Estado de São Paulo.Palavras-Chave: Fonética Forense; Estatística Forense, Metrologia Forense. AbstractJust over ten years, a new paradigm for some forensic disciplines was first described. In this new model, the Bayesian framework was proposed as a common theoretical framework for the interpretation and assessment of evidence. In the Forensic Speaker Comparison examination, efforts to adopt this approach had already been started long before the new paradigm had been proposed, whether it be in the automatic methodology or within a phonetic -based approach. In Brazil, where the option is to use either a binary decision model or a classical probability scale for the expression of the outcomes, the experts could count on a good alternative with the Bayesian framework. In order to adopt this framework, however, it would be necessary to obtain a speech database sufficiently representative. The purpose of this article is to review the theoretical framework of the Bayesian methods used in Forensic Speaker Comparison and propose a forensic speech database to be used in the State of São Paulo.
