Abstract: Gladiolus is one of the most important and popular cut-flower bulbous in Iran. The aim of this research was to produce new, high-quality hybrids through hybridization. We generated two promising hybrids (OPRC16 and OPRC57) combination from the varieties “Amsterdam” and “White Prosperity”. The Research was conducted in Ornamental Plants Research Center in Mahallat from 2014 to 2018. Values of Hm for traits were defined as the difference between the mid-F1 value and the mid-parent value, Mean Mid-parent Heterosi… Show more

“…So, cultivars with higher leaf area exhibit better quantitative and qualitative parameters. The expansion of leaf area increases photosynthesis and contributes to the accumulation of more carbohydrates (Azimi et al, 2018;Azimi, 2020c). The increase in leaf area improves cut flower length, flower size, and its quality.…”

“…As genetic diversity is increased in a population, the range of selection expands. A grouping of progenies based on seed properties in gladiolus (Azimi, 2020c) showed that the progenies of the crossing of gladiolus cultivars outperformed the other progenies in most traits. They were placed in different groups (Figure 2).…”

“…In addition, a study showed that the reciprocal cross significantly influenced flower traits in Gladiolus. Also, a negative and a positive heterosis were observed in various flower traits; peduncle length, floret diameter, and floret length depending on the parental crossing direction (Azimi, 2020).…”
