Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the clinical utility of 18 F-FDG PET/CT in patients with high-risk DTC. Subjects and methods: Single-center retrospective study with 74 patients with high-risk differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), classified in 4 groups. Group 1: patients with positive sTg or TgAb, subdivided in Group 1A: negative RxWBS and no foci of metastases identified at conventional image (n = 9); Group 1B: RxWBS not compatible with suspicious foci at conventional image or not proportional to sTg level (n = 13); Gr… Show more

“…A previous study has shown that 18 F-FDG PET-CT has a vital reference value for the early diagnosis and prognosis of thyroid cancer ( 21 ). PET-CT has high sensitivity and accurate anatomical localization ability for diagnosing malignant tumors, especially in whole-body imaging, which can fully assess the possibility of diagnosis, staging, metastasis and recurrence ( 8 , 22 , 23 ). Some research results show that the ability of differentiated thyroid cancer tissue to ingest FDG is related to metastatic or recurrent tumor tissue.…”

“…18 F-FDG PET/CT is mainly used for postoperative surveillance of poorly differentiated thyroid cancer [ 43 ]. The uptake ability of 18 F-FDG by thyroid cancer depends on the tumor differentiation degree [ 44 , 45 ].…”

“…However, enhanced CT is not routinely performed in patients with highly suspected recurrence or metastases in our department, in order to avoid the influence of the iodine contrast agent on the subsequent 131 I treatment. 18 F-FDG PET/CT is mainly used for postoperative surveillance of poorly differentiated thyroid cancer [43]. The uptake ability of 18 F-FDG by thyroid cancer depends on the tumor differentiation degree [44,45].…”
