“…Papillary and follicular cancer make up the majority (>90%) of all thyroid cancers worldwide 1 . Papillary thyroid cancer constituted the majority of diagnosed thyroid cancer with variations in relative frequencies in reported studies from KSA, Poland, India, Brazil, Turkey, Germany, Italy, China and Philippines 2,7,9,10,13,14,[19][20][21][22][23][24] . Even in Africa where follicular thyroid cancer was predominant over papillary in the 1980s, a more frequent occurrence of papillary thyroid cancer was reported by Ogbera and Kuku 25 .…”

“…One-third of patients had either surgical adverse event or a post-surgical Tg value that suggested residual benign or malignant thyroid tissue. The high frequencies of poor surgical outcomes suggest a lack of surgical thyroid cancer expertise 38,39 . In Ecuador, there are no residency programs dedicated to training surgeons about the treatment of TC.…”

“…PTC, as differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC), has good prognosis but 5% of the patients already have distant metastasis at the diagnosis [3]. The incidence of PTC was about 83.7% in thyroid malignancies and increased 5.2% per year, according to the epidemiologic data by Cavalheiro BG et al [4] And UTC is a rare and extremely aggressive malignancy, with the median survival of less than 6 months due to rapid progression and resistance to multimodal therapies [5]. However, coexistence of PTC with UTC is extremely rare.…”
