Management framework paradigms for disorders of sex development

Abstract: Until 2005, questions regarding medical treatment and diagnostic information on Disorders of Sex Development (DSD) were not systematically discussed with both the patients and their families; however, the way these patients are currently treated have been changing with time. Interventional changes in the clinical-psychotherapeutic-surgical areas of DSD determine not only different medical recommendations but also help to place the patient and the family into the decisional process of therapy. We must consider … Show more

“…The EuroDSD consortium, the International Disorder of Sex Development (I-DSD) Registry, and the aforementioned AR gene mutation database are great international initiatives that have contributed a lot in this DSD entity, opening a new, promising path for a more holistic management [2, 7, 18, 19]. Nevertheless, longitudinal studies are urgently needed to clarify obscure points in the optimal management of AIS, such as quality of life, sex assignment, and long-term outcomes.…”

“…Некоторые авторы [71] рассматривали Консенсус в качестве начала «новой эры» в оказании медицинской помощи больным с НПР, которая пришла на смену старой -«эре Money». Последняя характеризовалась тем, что врачи в своей практике руководствовались теорией John Money о превосходстве воспитания над природой (или окружающей среды над биологией) при формировании половой идентичности, а Консенсус изменил парадигму -после него приоритет стали отдавать биологии и «междисциплинарности».…”

“…[11] Paradigm shift of the conference was emphasis on sex assignment based on genetic and molecular criteria rather than gonadal function. [12] Old terms such as hermaphroditism, intersex and ambiguous sex were discarded in favour of the newly proposed nomenclature "disorders of sex development (DSD)". Unfortunately, even after a decade of consensus statement, controversies refuse to die down.…”
