Abstract: Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the results of thyroid surgeries with hospitalization periods shorter than 18 hours performed in a surgical endocrinology service, correlating these results with type of procedure, the definitive diagnosis and complications associated with the procedure. Subjects and methods: The procedures performed, complications associated, hospitalization period, and relationships among these variables were assessed in consecutive patients subjected to different types of thyroid surg… Show more

“…On the other hand, these rates are even higher with central compartment (level VI) lymph node dissections and in thyroid and parathyroid reoperations, especially in parathyroid hyperplasia (B) (45,46). Although the Brazilian literature in this regard is scarce, the results of Brazilian studies are aligned with those described above (25,(47)(48)(49)(50)(51)(52) (Table 3). Highlights SBEM: There are no consistent data on the prevalence of permanent hypoparathyroidism after surgery.…”

“…Due to the high heterogeneity, a random-effects model was used to analyse the data (P = 0.05, I 2 = 57%). Five studies about the relationship between postthyroidectomy haemorrhage and neck dissection were investigated (8,10,13,14,20). Thyroidectomy patients with neck dissection exhibited an increased risk of post-thyroidectomy haemorrhage (OR = 1.53, 95% CI = 1.11-2.11, P = 0.01) ( Fig.…”

“…We used a fixed-effects model to analyse the data involving the use of a drainage device (I 2 = 0%, P = 0.49). In this analysis, 4 retrospective studies were included (3,8,12,26), and studies with selected conditions for drainage device use were excluded. The analysis showed that postthyroidectomy haemorrhage was not associated with the use of a drainage device (OR = 1.27, 95% CI = 0.74-2.18, P = 0.40) ( Fig.…”

“…The data about the thyroid surgeries is accumulating in recent literature with an increase in the incidence of thyroid diseases [7][8][9]. In a retrospective study Grubey et al [10] reported that, among 1207 outpatient thyroidectomy operations; 85.2% of the patients were female.…”
