Circular Waveguide Polarizer for Weather Radars and Satellite Information Systems

Abstract: This research presents the design and main electromagnetic characteristics of the novel compact microwave waveguide polarizer. The developed device's structure is based on a circular waveguide and anti-phase conducting posts located in it. The application of a circular waveguide instead of a square one allowed simple integration of a polarizer with corrugated horn antennas. The obtaining of required phase difference using a postsbased design provides the possibility of fine tuning of the developed circular wav… Show more

“…[1][2][3] For example, in telecommunication radio systems the simultaneous operation at two orthogonal linear polarizations doubles potentially achieved information transmission. 4,5 Moreover, the ability to process wireless signals with orthogonal circular polarizations provides extra benefits in modern radars [6][7][8][9][10] and space communication systems. [11][12][13][14] The advantages include the reduction of amplitude and polarization distortions caused by Faraday effect in the ionosphere and by the multipath propagation in urban environments and mobile systems.…”

“…In addition, some publications [49,50] are devoted to the constructions of broadband polarization processing devices. There are also several designs of polarizers for use in radar systems [51], satellite systems [52][53][54] and both of them [55]. In [56] a comparative analysis of waveguide polarizers with diaphragms is performed.…”

“…The applied antenna system must contain specific types of microwave waveguide devices [8,9] to provide a possibility to operate at circular polarization. Namely, these devices are orthomode duplexers [10][11][12] and waveguide polarization converters [13,14]. One of the common types of waveguide polarization transforming devices is polarizers with conducting metal septum plates.…”
