Show more

“…They are obtained through the process of pyrolysis of certain species of plants, mainly from the families Arecaceae, Amaranthaceae, and Lecythidaceae. This process has been described among several Amazonian ethnic groups such as the Waimiri-Atroari, Witoto, Yanomami, and Tupinambá (Martius 1979;Bastos 1987;Albert and Milliken 2009;Tomchinsky 2017;Kermath et al 2020).…”

They are species that, for the most part, have a high concentration of secondary compounds in their composition such as terpenes, alkaloids, and phenols (Lorenzi and Matos 2008;Simões et al 2017).…”

The plant has fruits that, when eaten fresh, cause stomach problems that are only relieved when they are cooked and subsequently macerated.…”

“…Other factors could be involved with the use of antimalarial plants, but must be more studied, such as the accessibility of these plants and their efficiency and safety. Of the 55 reported species, only 25 have been characterized through biological essays, which highlights the importance of ethno botanical research for the identification of potential novel antimalarial drugs (TOMCHINSKY;. 9 "A etnobotânica pode ser definida como o estudo da relação existente entre o Homem e as Plantas e o modo como essas plantas são usadas como recursos" (ROCHA; BOSCOLO; FERNANDES, 2015, p. 67).…”
