Abstract: Resumo O presente trabalho consiste do tratamento taxonômico de Borreria para a flora do Ceará. Show more

“…Fertile plant specimens were collected in the four caatinga-savannas in expeditions carried out between May 2016 and August 2019. Appropriate herborization techniques were followed (Mori et al 1989) We consulted the relevant literature, such as the monographs of the Flora of Ceará (Menezes et al 2013;Soares-Neto et al 2014;Lima et al 2018;Nepomuceno et al 2018) and specialized taxonomic databases -Flora do Brasil 2020 (Flora do Brasil 2020 2019) and CRIA (2019), to identify the specimens. Plant specialists in the families Asteraceae, Bignoniaceae, Cyperaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Poaceae and Rubiaceae were consulted.…”

“…Most of the species of Borreria inhabit open vegetation, with sandy and lateritic soils, eventually stony but with scarce shrubs or arboreal elements. This type of physiognomy characterizes the vegetation called ‘Campos Rupestres', ‘Cerrado' and ‘Caatinga' in Brazil; for example, in the Brazilian Cerrado 43 species have been recorded (Nepomuceno et al 2018, Miguel et al 2020), while in Argentina and Paraguay the highest number of species are recorded in the northeastern provinces (e.g Misiones, Corrientes). This region has specific areas (e.g.…”

“…In South America, several regional contributions have been made to our knowledge of Borreria , including descriptions of new species and a synopsis for Bolivia and some states of Brazil (Cabral et al 2011, 2012b, 2012c, Miguel and Cabral 2013, 2015, Sobrado and Cabral 2015, Nepomuceno et al 2018). For Argentina, Bacigalupo and Cabral made important contributions, such as the floristic treatment of the provinces Buenos Aires, Entre Rios and Jujuy (Bacigalupo 1965, 1974, 1993), and taxonomic novelties of the northern species (Cabral 1981, 1983, 1986).…”
