The Cerrado Biome is considered one of the world's biodiversity hotspots because of its rich biodiversity, the high level of endemism and the increasing threat. The Cerrado is composed by a mosaic of different vegetation types, including physiognomies that vary from grasslands (campo limpo) to savannas (typical cerrado or cerrado sensu stricto) and cerrado woodlands (cerradão). However, the factors that determine the composition of the Cerrado's flora and the structure of the physiognomies that compose this biome are still poorly understood. Here, we investigate the influence of the chemical and granulometric properties of the soil and the effect of geographic distance on the occurrence and abundance of woody species in three Cerrado phytophysiognomies -cerrado woodland (cerradão), dense cerrado savanna and typical cerrado savanna -in the Cerrado-Amazon transition. We tested the hypothesis that the edaphic characteristics and geographic space determine the species composition and the structure of the woody vegetation of these three phytophysiognomies. We demonstrate that the dissimilarities in the structure and composition of the three sites were determined more by space (13% of explanation) than edaphic properties (1%), but primarily by the interaction between these two factors (26%). We conclude that, in situations where the chemical and granulometric properties of the soil are relatively homogeneous, as we found in the present study, geographic distance between sites has a greater influence than variation in the substrate's properties on modelling the occurrence and abundance of the woody plant species in the Cerrado.Keywords: cerradão, edaphic properties, geographical distance, soil-vegetation relationship, species composition. We present a checklist of ferns and lycophytes from Parque Estadual Mata das Flores, a state park located in Castelo, Espírito Santo, Brazil. The park has an area of 800 ha, and its main vegetation is composed of dry forest (at 150-500 m elev.), and a small portion of wet forest (500-700 m), within the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest biome. We found 83 taxa, including 75 species, 3 varieties, 4 putative hybrids, and 1 cultivar. Among these, 17 are newly recorded from the Espírito Santo. Twenty-five taxa are endemic to the Atlantic Forest biome, and 5 are endemic to southeastern Brazil, and 2 are narrow endemics to the states of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo. Anemia blechnoides is the only vulnerable species found, according to the national red list. We found 4 naturalized species. Among the hybrids, 3 are reported for the first time in literature (Blechnum asplenioides × B. glandulosum, Campyloneurum decurrens × C. repens, and Doryopteris collina × D. lorentzii) and 1 for the first time in Brazil (B. glandulosum × B. polypodioides).

A Serra Negra está inserida na área do Complexo da Serra da Mantiqueira, no domínio da Mata Atlântica, com altitudes entre 800 e 1.650 m, com vegetação em mosaico representada, entre outros, por campos rupestres em afloramentos quartzíticos e floresta nebulares. A família Lamiaceae (Labiatae) está representada na Serra Negra por 10 gêneros e 17 espécies: AbstractThe Serra Negra is part of the Mantiqueira mountain range in the Atlantic Florest. With altitudes between 800 and 1,650 m and a vegetation mosaic composed primarily of "campo rupestre" on quartzitic rock outcrops and cloud forest assemblages. The Lamiaceae is represented in the Serra Negra by 10 genera and 17 species: Aegiphila integrifolia, Cantinoa carpinifolia, C. macrotera, C. muricata, Eriope macrostachya, Hoehnea scutellarioides, Hyptidendron asperrimum, Hyptis lanceolata, H. monticola, H. radicans, Mesosphaerum sidifolium, M. suaveolens, Rhabdocaulon coccineum, Salvia arenaria, S. viscida, Vitex polygama and V. sellowiana. This study includes a identification key for all taxa, species descriptions, geographical and taxonomic notes.
