“…Due to the hydrophilic nature of alginate, it is a poor water vapour barrier, has a high affinity to water vapour and is highly wettable and sensitive to water contact. In this study, it was planned to coat the calcium alginate (Ca‐alginate) film with sunflower oil (SFO) (as a widely used oil in domestic and industrial applications, with the liquid state in ambient temperature, and unsaturation degree of about 90% 18 ) or linseed oil (LSO) (as a drying oil with more than 50% α ‐linolenic acid [C18:3 n ‐3] content and the unsaturation degree of about 90% 19 ) to compare the effect of drying and polymerization of LSO with a usual and non‐drying oil (SFO). When LSO is applied in thin layers on a nonabsorbent substrate, it dries quickly in air to form a hard, non‐melting and water‐insoluble film.…”
