Dimethylacetamide alone or in combination with glycerol can be used for cryopreservation of ovine semen

Abstract: Dimethylacetamide has been included in different extenders for the cryopreservation of semen from species with promising results. The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of dimethylacetamide (DMA) in different concentrations, associated or not with glycerol (GLY), for the cryopreservation of ovine semen, and its effects on in vitro sperm parameters and post-thaw in vivo fertility. Five semen samples of five adult Santa Ines sheep (n=25) were used. The c… Show more

“…The addition of substances for semen cryopreservation to maintain its viability and quality has been evidenced, bringing benefits to the freezing ( 34 , 35 ) or cooling of semen ( 36 ). And as a dietary strategy, the supplementation with palm kernel cake does not affect seminal parameters and thus could be used as an alternative ingredient in sheep diets ( 37 ).…”

“…Structural difference exists in the plasma membrane of the sperm among the species (Ladha, 1998). CPA with different chemical groups has different permeability coefficient in different species (Menezes et al, 2021). Kim et al(2011) observed lower acrosome integrity with 3 per cent DMA compared to glycerol.…”
