O vírus linfotrópico das células T humanas tipo 1 (HTLV-1) está relacionado a diversas manifestações clínicas como a Leucemia/Linfoma de célula T do adulto (ATL) e a Paraparesia espástica tropical (TSP), além de alterações imunológicas. O HTLV-1 tem uma alta prevalência na população brasileira. Sua transmissão ocorre através das vias sexual, parenteral e vertical e o diagnóstico é feito através de exames laboratoriais. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi fazer o levantamento de informações destinadas a cirurgiões dentistas acerca do HTLV-1, seu diagnóstico, e possíveis manifestações orais relacionadas. Realizou-se uma revisão bibliográfica através de pesquisas feitas nas bases de dados PubMed e Google Acadêmico. A infecção pelo HTLV-1 pode estar associada a síndrome de Sjögren, que pode acometer a cavidade bucal e as glândulas lacrimais e salivares. Os medicamentos utilizados no controle das doenças podem apresentar efeitos colaterais sobre a cavidade oral, modificando o processo de salivação. Com a redução do fluxo salivar o indivíduo tem maior risco de cárie, doença periodontal e a predisposição a doenças oportunistas como a candidíase. Nesse sentido, ressaltasse a importância do cirurgião-dentista na equipe multidisciplinar de acompanhamento do paciente HTLV positivo.
