Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the color stability and the surface roughness of a bulk-fill composite flow (SDR® Plus) by comparison to an ORMOCER-based composite (Ceram.x® Universal SphereTEC™) in order to confirm the validity of using SDR® Plus in the anterior region and to allow the prediction of its longterm results. Material and Methods: 35 composite specimens of the same shade (A2), thickness (2mm) and shape of both types of composite were prepared. The specimens were cured and polished according to the manufacturer's instructions. The initial shade of the specimens was measured using a calibrated EasyShade spectrophotometer. The initial surface roughness of the specimens was measured by AFM. Afterwards, the specimens were subjected to an accelerated aging procedure through thermo-cycling, a coffee stain challenge and brushing to simulate two years in the oral environment. The shade and surface roughness of the specimens were measured again after the accelerated aging procedure.

Objective: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the color stability of different bulk fill composite resins after extrinsic staining with coffee. Material and methods: Forty-eight disk-shaped specimens (6 mm diameter x 2 mm thick) of each composite resin were prepared for color change test. The composite resins were divided into 4 groups (n=12): one conventional composite resin (Filtek Z250) and three bulk-fill composite resins (Filtek Bulk Fill, Aura Bulk Fill, and Opus Bulk Fill). The samples were stained with 20 mL coffee solution for 7 days, with the solution being replaced every 24 h. The color change analysis was performed using a spectrophotometer, according to the CIE Lab formula. Data were analyzed using the Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey HSD tests (?=0.05). Results: The results revealed significant differences in color change among the composite resins tested (?<0.0001). The Aura Bulk Fill and Opus Bulk Fill showed the highest color change values. Conclusions: Thus, all the resins analyzed were susceptible to extrinsic staining with coffee, and the Filtek Bulk Fill showed the lowest color change value.

Introdução: A procura por tratamentos dentários restauradores vêm crescendo ao longo dos últimos anos. As alterações de cor dos dentes anteriores acarretam maior impacto estético, devido a sua maior visibilidade no momento de sorrir e de se comunicar. Objetivo: revisar a literatura sobre a abordagem das técnicas restauradoras para realização de restaurações diretas em dentes escurecidos. Metodologia: foi realizada revisão bibiliográfica nas bases de dados Pubmed, Scielo, BBO e LILACS. Foram selecionados artigos, publicações e pesquisas publicadas no período de 2015 a 2021 que estivessem relacionados à temática desse estudo. Resultados: o grande desafio na confecção de facetas diretas em dentes escurecidos é o mascaramento do substrato alterado. Para minimizar esse efeito indesejado o profissional pode aumentar o desgaste dental, ou de forma mais conservadora, utilizar os opacificadores, definido como resinas capazes de impedir a passagem de luz e mascarar cores indesejadas do substrato dental. Conclusão: o correto diagnóstico do escurecimento dentário além do domínio na manipulação e o conhecimento adequado dos agentes opacificadores são essenciais para a obtenção de uma estética natural do sorriso e o sucesso no tratamento com facetas diretas de dentes anteriores. A utilização de resinas opacificadoras é coadjuvante na técnica de faceta direta em dentes escurecidos e parece trazer resultados satisfatórios.
