Abstract: ObjectiveTo evaluate the association of glycemic control and cytokine production in type 2 diabetic subjects with chronic periodontitis. Methods Gingival biopsies were performed in 40 patients, divided into four groups: systemically healthy subjects without periodontal disease (S); systemically healthy patients with chronic periodontitis (P); patients with well-controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) with chronic periodontitis (C); poorly controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus with chronic periodontitis (D). The… Show more

“…26) Over time, the presence of PGC alters the levels of some metabolites, such as lipid profile (total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol), creatinine, uric acid, and some cytokines (interleukin [IL]-6, IL-17, interferon-γ). [27][28][29] However, changes in the hemostatic system have not been well studied in children. In this work, degree of glycemic control and duration of T1DM diagnosis did not significantly affect the hemostatic parameters evaluated.…”

“…Many researchers have emphasized the importance of GGC, particularly as diabetes duration increases, to reduce the risk of vascular complications [ 26 ]. Over time, the presence of PGC alters the levels of some metabolites, such as lipid profile (total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol), creatinine, uric acid, and some cytokines (interleukin [IL]-6, IL-17, interferon-γ) [ 27 - 29 ]. However, changes in the hemostatic system have not been well studied in children.…”

“…Furthermore, IL-23 has expressed markedly in gastric mucosa infected with H. pylori, which could help to maintain the production of IL-17 [37]. Notably, Franco et al [38] concluded that substantially higher concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines have been identified in poorly controlled diabetic patients, suggesting that glycemic status can be impacted the immune response. The influence of proinflammatory cytokine, TNF-α, IL-18 and IL-23 in T2DM with H. pylori infection are demonstrated in the current study.…”
