Abstract: Dementia is a general term for a heterogeneous group of organic neurodegenerative diseases. Cerebrovascular causes account for 20% of cases. Objective: To describe the clinical and epidemiological features of individuals aged >60 years diagnosed with vascular dementia (VD) or mixed dementia (MxD) in a referral hospital for dementia. Methods: A descriptive, retrospective study was carried out from 2014 to 2017 involving elderly individuals (≥60 years) with VA or MxD. “…71 Depression and apathy are common in the NPI profiles of VCI. [72][73][74][75] Epilepsy is a non-NDD disorder to which the NPI has been applied, revealing high rates of depression and psychotic symptoms. 76 The inventory was helpful in anticipating caregiver needs and resource planning as well as characterizing patient behaviors.…”

“…An inverse correlation between the cognitive status (as measured by MMSE) [17] and behavioral disturbances (as measured by Neurobehavioral Rating Scale) [18] was also reported. Santos et al [19] showed that patients with VaD experienced apathy, irritability, anxiety, depression and disinhibition that were the most common neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS), compared to patients with MixD. Moreover, this disrupting behavioral cluster occurred in the early stage of VaD natural history, although no association with the duration of the disease was observed.…”

“…32 Many studies in gerontics have revealed that the response to ischemia varies greatly with age, especially in terms of cognitive endpoints. 33,34 In our study, we established vascular dementia models with 6-8-week old rats by bilateral common carotid artery ligation, so the cognitive impairment occurred for a short period of time, and the change of cognitive impairment may be slightly different from the physiological and pathological process of senile patients with vascular dementia. Thus, in the future, the role of Pinocembrin in ameliorating cognitive impairment induced by vascular dementia is still needed to be furtherly confirmed through modified methods of animal experiments and clinical trials.…”
