Show more

“…The same discrepancy in growth rates was observed for juvenile tambaqui (Chagas et al 2013;Silva and Fujimoto 2015) in comparison with our results. These observations show clearly the necessity to adapt the experimental feed tested in our study to the nutrition performance of commercial extruded feed.…”

“…The SGR values observed in this study were 4.16-4.53% day -1 higher than those observed by Souza et al (2014), who analyzed the feeding frequency of juvenile tambaqui for 30 days; and were 0.89-0.98% day -1 higher than the values obtained by Silva and Fujimoto (2015), who analyzed tambaqui in the growing phase for 98 days in aquiculture cages. The values obtained in this study were higher, which was possibly due to the use of fish during the initial growing phase, which is normally the developmental stage with the highest SGR values.…”

“…In addition to improving performance, a beneficial effect of the probiotic supplementation on haematological parameters was also observed in juvenile tambaqui. Haematological parameters are commonly used as indicators of the physiological condition in fish, as they reflect the health state of the farmed fish (Akter, Parvez, & Patwary, ; Silva & Fujimoto, ). In the present study, no differences in haemoglobin levels, haematological indices (VCM, HCM and CHCM), leucocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes or basophils were observed.…”
