Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate edemogenic activity and subcutaneous inflammatory reaction induced by Psidium cattleianum leaf extracts associated with Ca(OH) 2 . Thirty male Wistar rats, split equally into three groups [aqueous extract + Ca(OH) 2 ; ethanolic extract + Ca(OH) 2 ; and propylene glycol + Ca(OH) 2 ], were assessed every 3 h or 6 h (five animals in each period). Under general anesthesia, 0.2 mL of 1% Evans blue per 100 g of body weight was injected into the penile vein and each combination t… Show more

“…However, surgical trauma causes inflammation in the tube insertion area, resulting in inflammatory infiltrate (24). Previous studies corroborate our results, showing the inflammation in this group (1,8,22,24), thus the importance of the control group for comparing inflammation levels with the different tested materials that are also influenced by the surgical trauma (24). In this study, the groups had moderate inflammation in the initial period, later becoming mild, similar to the control group.…”

“…In this study, the groups had moderate inflammation in the initial period, later becoming mild, similar to the control group. In addition, it is observed in other reports that the inflammation tends to decrease further with longer study durations, being insignificant at 60 and 90 days after the implantation of the empty tubes (7,24,25), as well as of the MTA (7,25), indicating that the same would occur in the present study for these groups. Thus, clinically, tissues are expected to respond positively when in contact with these materials.…”

“…After washed three times in deionized water, Psidium cattleianum leaves were dried protected from light at 27°C during 5 days and at 37°C during 15 days until becoming friable. Dried leaves were ground to a fine powder in a blender [31].…”

“…Ethanolic extract of Psidium cattleianum leaf has similar biocompatibility to saline [30]. The biocompatibility of P. cattleianum extracts used as vehicle for CH has been recently demonstrated [31], indicating that these extracts have promising applications in the field of dentistry. However, these extracts have not been evaluated against biofilm of E.faecalis and C. albicans.…”
