Growth regulator on oat yield indicators

Abstract: Growth regulator in oat can reduce lodging with effects on yield indicators. The objective of the study is to define the optimum dose of growth regulator to reduce lodging in oats under different conditions of nitrogen (N) fertilization (reduced, high and very high) and the effects on yield indicators in the succession systems. In each succession system (soybean/oats and corn/oats), two experiments were conducted, one to quantify biomass yield and the other to estimate grain yield and lodging. In the four expe… Show more

“…This fact occurs due to the compromised efficiency of nitrogen absorption, aimed at the elaboration of yield components (Mantai et al, 2016;Costa et al, 2018). In addition, excessive rainfall in the grain filling phase contributes to plant lodging and reduced quality, resulting in yield losses (Kaspary et al, 2015;Krysczun et al, 2017).…”

“…High yield of oats depends on the genetic potential of the cultivars, management technologies, and favorable climate and soil for growing (Hawerroth et al, 2015;Krysczun et al, 2017). Among the management technologies, nitrogen fertilization stands out, as it is the nutrient most absorbed by cereals and most directly linked to yield.…”

“…The use of adequate growth regulator dosages is very important because the optimum concentrations vary by species and with various types of synthetic inductors (23) . After treatment of the stem base with the rootinducing growth regulator, the carbohydrates translocated to the treated area, increasing the rate of respiration and resulting in transformation of the carbohydrates and organic nitrogen compounds.…”

“…The use of high seeding density in favorable years, combined with application of nitrogen fertilizers to increase grain yield, increases lodging in oat plants. Lodging is a complex phenomenon; the plant loses its vertical position, leaning and falling towards the ground, which affects grain yield and quality and makes harvesting difficult (Hawerroth et al, 2015;Krysczun et al, 2017). Lodging can be caused by genetic factors combined with external factors, such as wind, rain, hail, soil, plant density, and other management techniques (Silva et al, 2015;Marolli et al, 2017).…”
