A parte que me cabe nesse julgamento: a Folha de S. Paulo na cobertura ao processo do "mensalão"

Abstract

Resumo: O artigo analisa a cobertura do jornal Folha de S. Paulo ao julgamento da Ação Penal 470, mais conhecido como julgamento do "mensalão". A partir dele e tendo em mente sua especificidade, discutimos as relações entre a imprensa brasileira e o PT e o modo de organização da pluralidade no jornalismo político no Brasil. Nessa cobertura, a pluralidade corresponde à garantia de espaços restritos para a defesa, circunscrita e autointeressada, de alguns indivíduos diante da narrativa que organiza o noticiário. O noticiário é apresentado, por sua vez, como narrativa colada aos fatos e, como tal, não posicionada. O ângulo apresentado como legítimo para a cobertura é naturalizado ao mesmo tempo em que as posições em disputa, que implicariam recortes distintos para a produção do noticiário, são excluídas ou domesticadas como reações aos fatos. Na cobertura analisada, o partidarismo encontra sua expressão na prevalência da dimensão moral da política no discurso jornalístico.Palavras-chave: imprensa; pluralidade; partidarismo; "mensalão"; Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) Abstract: This article analyses the role of one of the main Brazilian newspapers, Folha de S. Paulo, in the understanding of Penal Action 470 -the judgment by Brazilian supreme court of important members of Brazilian Workers' Party for their involvement in corruption during the first government of Lula da Silva. It discusses the relationship between press and PT in Brazil and, also, the way plurality is organized in Brazilian political journalism. In the news here discussed, plurality equals guarantees for a restricted defense of some individuals in face of the narrative that organizes the coverage. While a circumscribed defense is presented as self-interested, that narrative is presented as nonpartisan and stuck to the facts. The angle presented as legitimate in the news is naturalized while conflicting positions are excluded or domesticated as reactions to the facts. Partisanship has its expression, then, in the prevalence of the moral dimension of politics.

Cascading corruption news: explaining the bias of media attention to Brazil’s political scandals
