Performance and Serum Biochemical Profile of Broiler Chickens Supplemented with Piper Cubeba Ethanolic Extract

Abstract: Piper cubeba is an Asian pepper used in popular medicine for its known antimicrobial, antiparasitic, and anti-inflammatory actions. The study evaluated the effects of dietary inclusion of Piper cubeba ethanolic extract (PE) as a replacement for anantibiotic growth promoter (AGP) on the performance and biochemical serum profile of 1-to 21-d-old broilers (Cobb ®). Two hundred one-d-old broilers were housed in experimental battery cages and distributed in a completely randomized design. The following treatments w… Show more

“…The outcomes of our present study are in agreement with Oloruntola [ 53 ], who observed that the relative internal organs weights of the broilers were not influenced by dietary inclusion of seed meal and pawpaw leaf meal. Similar observations were described in the work by Rubio et al [ 77 ] and Vispute et al [ 13 ], where dietary addition of phytobiotics did not influence the relative organs weights in broiler chickens.…”

“…These findings indicated that POLM had no deleterious effects on kidney function. Various studies using phytobiotics supplementation in broiler chickens have supported our present study results, including the work by Rubio et al [ 77 ], Ahmad et al [ 78 ], and Adegoke et al [ 52 ].…”

“…The minimum content of red blood cells and hemoglobin was registered at the age of 30 days, which was consistent with the data of domestic and foreign scientists. After application of biopreparation, the content of red blood cells in the second experimental group (biostimulator 10 g/kg of feed) increased by 16% compared to the control group (Buyarov et al, 2012;Fisinin, 2013;Ahmadi et al, 2018;Buyarov et al, 2018;Jahanian and Ashnagar, 2018;Nozdrin et al, 2018;Rubio et al, 2019).…”

“…According to domestic and foreign sources, there is a correlation between the state of some internal organs and the general state of the body of chickens. Thus, when the depletion increases, the thymus lobes grow less and when the feeding diet of birds improves, the gland regeneration begins in parallel (Aluwong et al, 2013;Skovorodinet al, 2013;Fisinin et al, 2017;Jahanian and Ashnagar, 2018;Rubio et al, 2019).…”
