Dynamic analysis of gun barrel vibrations due to effect of an unbalanced projectile considering 2-D transverse displacements of barrel tip using a 3-D element technique

Abstract: In this paper, dynamic analysis of two different weapon systems (35 mm Anti-Aircraft Barrel (AAB) and 120 mm Grooved Tank Barrel (GTB)) under the effect of statically unbalanced projectile has been performed with a new 12 DOF 3-D element technique using Finite Element Method (FEM). The muzzle deviations, which negatively affect the barrel shooting accuracy at firing, are calculated in a time dependent manner using Newmark β algorithm with high accuracy at both axes (y and z) considering the Coriolis centripeda… Show more

“…This paper focuses on the effect of the bullet muzzle velocity on the firing dispersion and the firing density. The muzzle vibration characteristics determine the bullet muzzle velocity, so calculating the muzzle movement correctly is the key to analyzing the firing dispersion and the firing density [7,8] . The gun body was mounted on a flexible mount, so the mount vibration directly affected the gun body vibration [9,10] .…”

“…Fryba [1] in his book gives an excellent account of the analytical responses of beams subjected to various types of moving loads, masses, and more. In the context of assuming a gun barrel as a beam and then performing an analysis and inferring relevant conclusions, Mehmet, Ismail, et al, [2] provide a positive insight into the said analysis. Solving the problem i.e.…”
