Abstract: Thin walled multi-cell columns are highly efficient energy absorbers under axial compressions. Multi-cell features are usually obtained by placing stiffeners or ribs to get the required geometry features in the columns. In this study, the curved stiffeners with varying numbers in different configurations are used to support the circular single and bi-tubular metallic tubes and their shape, position and number effects are numerically investigated under dynamic axial crushing loads. Number of configurations can … Show more

“…They concluded that the bitubular concentric cylindrical was the most appropriate among all the sections to enhance crashworthiness characteristics. Continuing with bitubular cylindrical sections, Ahmed et al [12] examined the deformation characteristics of numerous tube configuration with curvy stiffeners under axial impact. Their outcomes showed the efficacy of curved stiffeners in enhancing the EAC of tubes.…”

“…They concluded that the double layer cylindrical multi-cell structure was the most suitable to increase crashworthiness performance. Continuing with circular multi-cell profiles, Ahmed et al [10] investigated the energy absorption capacities of several tube arrangements with curved stiffeners under dynamic axial load. Their numerical results evidenced the effectiveness of curved stiffeners to improve the energy absorption of columns.…”
