A lima bean core collection based on molecular markers

Abstract: Some germplasm collections have a high number of accessions, which makes it difficult to explore the genetic variability present in the germplasm bank due to the redundancy and the difficulty of detailed analysis of all conserved accessions. Therefore, our study aimed to analyze the genetic diversity of 153 lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus) accessions for the purpose of constructing a core collection. Eleven SSRs were used for this purpose. The 153 lima bean accessions can be represented by low redundancy using a … Show more

“…(2017) also found a high genetic diversity (0.60) in 14 accessions of lima bean from Brazil, higher than those reported for other regions of America and similar to those of wild populations of the Yucatán Peninsula, in Mexico, using 10 SSRs markers. Gomes et al (2020) analyzed the genetic diversity of 153 accessions of lima bean to build a nuclear collection, using 11 SSRs markers, and found that 34 accessions were representative of the entire germplasm bank, with greater genetic diversity (0.81) compared to the entire bank (0.71).…”

“…According to Baudoin (1988), the projection of the stigma and stylus out of the perianth and the receptivity of the stigma during many hours can be responsible for these high crossing rates. Gomes et al (2020), analyzed the genetic diversity of accessions of lima bean to build a nuclear collection, using SSRs markers, and also found that the groups in which the studied accessions were separated did not re ect their geographic origins. Guimarães et al (2007), through a dendrogram constructed from 22 lima bean accessions analyzed through RAPD markers, formed two main groups, whose accessions were not divided according to their origin.…”
