A new species of Elachistocleis (Anura: Microhylidae) from the Brazilian Pantanal.A new species of from the Brazilian Pantanal is described. The new species differs from all other in having the following combination of characters: medium to large-sized species (26.9-40.3 mm); head length about 89% of head width; post-commissural gland poorly developed; dorsum in preservative (EtOH 70%) slightly rough, grayish, with minute, scattered white dots and a large, elongated dark gray spot on the mid-dorsum and posterior part of head; venter gray or brown with white spots separating dorsal and ventral regions; a single vocal sac dark gray; large, irregular, light cream spot on humerus; large, irregular light cream spots on groin; light cream, irregular stripe on posterior surfaces of thighs; and irregular, light cream spots on the proximal internal surface of each shank. This new species increases the number of Oval frogs for the state of Mato Grosso do Sul to four and demonstrates the value of the single the Maciço do Urucum are necessary to determine the diversity of the herpetofauna in that region. Uma nova 40.3 mm); comprimento da cabeça com cerca de 89% da largura da cabeça; glândula pós-comissural 144 Phyllomedusa -16(2), December 2017 pobremente desenvolvida; dorso em preservativo (EtOH 70%) ligeiramente áspero, acinzentado, com pontos brancos pequenos e dispersos e uma mancha cinza escura alongada, grande no meio do dorso e na parte posterior da cabeça; ventre cinza ou marrom com manchas brancas separando as regiões dorsal e ventral; um único saco vocal cinza escuro; uma mancha creme claro grande e irregular no úmero; manchas creme claro grandes, irregulares na virilha; faixa creme claro irregular nas superfícies posteriores das coxas; e manchas creme claras irregulares na superfície interna proximal de cada do Sul para quatro e demonstra o valor da única área protegida em Corumbá para a conservação da biodiversidade e a importância de continuar as pesquisas de campo no Maciço de Urucum para determinar a diversidade da Herpetofauna.

As 20 espécies registradas neste estudo representam apenas 9,6% das 209 espécies catalogadas para o Cerrado (Valdujo et al 2012) e 20,8% das 96 espécies encontradas para o estado de Mato Grosso do Sul (Souza et al 2017). Resumo:As Veredas são responsáveis pelo equilíbrio geoecológico do bioma Cerrado, além de contribuírem protegendo as nascentes e fornecendo recursos para a fauna silvestre em que nelas está inserida. O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever a distribuição temporal e espacial de anuros em uma vereda no município de Campo Grande, estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil. Foram selecionados três pontos de coleta ao longo de toda Vereda, estes foram amostrados mensalmente entre novembro de 2008 e outubro de 2009. Foram encontradas 20 espécies distribuídas em três famílias: Bufonidae (1), Hylidae (09), Leptodactylidae (09) e Phyllomedusidae (01). O número de espécies em atividade de vocalização foi influenciado pela temperatura (Z = 2,623, p = 0,008), pela umidade relativa do ar (Z = 4,539, p = 5.65e-06) e pela precipitação (Z = 2,729, p = 0,006). Quanto a distribuição espacial, as espécies divergiram na utilização de vegetações herbáceas emergentes e marginais, árvores e arbustos ao redor do corpo d'água, chão da vereda e nível d'água. A correlação positiva dos dados abióticos com a riqueza se mostrou típica de regiões tropicais. Para a distribuição espacial, os sítios de vocalização foram idênticos aos registrados para as mesmas espécies em outras localidades. A sobreposição espacial pode indicar que é um mecanismo secundário no isolamento reprodutivo.Palavras-chave: acústica; anfíbios; Centro-Oeste; ecologia; segregação. TEMPORAL AND SPACIAL DISTRIBUTION OF ANURANS IN A VEREDA IN MATO GROSSO DO SUL, BRAZIL.The Veredas are responsible for the maintenance of fauna and flora and contribute to the continuity and regularity of the rivers. This work describes the spacial and temporal distribution of anurans in a vereda, at municipality of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. We selected three sampling points along the entire vereda, which were sampled monthly between November 2008 and October 2009. We founded 20 species in four families: Bufonidae (01), Hylidae (09) e Leptodactylidae (09) e Phyllomedusidae (01). The number of species in calling activity was influenced by temperature (Z = 2.623, p = 0.008), by relative humidity (Z = 4.539, p = 5.65e-06) and by accumulated rainfall (Z = 2.729, p = 0.006). The spatial distribution of the species diverged in the use of emergent herbaceous vegetation, marginal trees, shrubs around the pond, the path and ground water level. The positive correlation of abiotic data with richness was typical of tropical regions. For the spacial distribution, the vocalization sites were alike to those recorded for the same species Sousa et al. | 1071 Oecol. Aust. 23(4): 1070-1082, 2019in other locations. Spatial overlap may indicate that it is a secondary mechanism in reproductive isolation.

Anuran Species Composition From Chaco and Cerrado Areas in Central Brazil

Herein, we present an updated inventory and the variations of frog communities' composition from five areas of humid Chaco and Cerrado in municipality of Porto Murtinho, Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil. This municipality is located in an area with three ecoregions: Chaco, Cerrado and Pantanal. Through acoustic and visual nocturnal/diurnal and pitfall evaluations from a period of over five years, we recorded 31 species in the Cerrado and 29 species in the humid Chaco. About 90% of the species were previously registered in the municipality of Porto Murtinho. A non-metric multidimensional analysis based on a presence/absence matrix revealed a separation in our sampling sites and communities with Cerrado and humid Chaco characteristics. This peculiarity in the species composition must be related to the transition zone, with the presence of mixed species characteristics of Cerrado and humid Chaco in both areas in the municipality of Porto Murtinho experiences a high degree of deforestation pressure, which threatens both the Cerrado and humid Chaco vegetation. This highlights the importance of knowledge actions about the richness and composition of species, corroborating ecological tools to support conservation in this region.
