Abstract: ABSTRACT. Emerged reef zonation of the Costa dos Corais Environmental Protection Area, northeast Brazil. The zoning reef environments allows us to evaluate possible anthropic impacts and to subsidize future management plans. This study aimed to survey the reef-flat's benthic species (with special emphasis on cnidarians) in the first line of reefs of the Costa dos Corais, as well as to calculate and compare their percentage cover. Continuous line transects were carried out in six beaches of the area, in three r… Show more

“…This can indicate that despite the low salinity, chlorophyll- a and turbidity can be important factors for the species’ niche. This information corroborates previous studies ( Segal & Castro, 2011 ; Steiner et al, 2015 ), which suggested that low salinity was an exclusion factor for P. caribaeorum . However, it is difficult to decouple the influence of variables related to water quality from demands related more to depth and substrate in coastal areas, as both are intrinsically linked in continental shores.…”

“…peltata , Bryopsis spp. ( Magalhães et al, 2015 ), Sargassum, Halimeda, Laurencia, Dictyota, Dictyopteris , Ulva, and coralline algae ( Steiner et al, 2015 ). Macroalgae are common in coral reefs, sometimes dominating the community and competing for space with corals ( Tanner, 1995 ; Bruno et al, 2009 ).…”

“…In the absence of data on the indicator in estuaries, we use values from the river basins where they are located or from the same region. “…The analysis of the size distribution indicated that most juveniles were found in SWCR habitats, mainly in the southern areas. The higher CPUE values may be due to the presence of a great extension of coral reefs in this region (Costa et al 2007, Leão et al 2016 and the fact that most of this area is included in two MPAs (APA Costa dos Corais and APA Guadalupe) (Floeter et al 2007, Steiner et al 2015, Eduardo et al 2018. Furthermore, upwelling processes have been reported in these areas, in which nutrients are transferred from deep to shallow layers, and this is linked to a higher abundance of prey for fish assemblages (MMA 2006).…”
