Effect of different covering materials used during the pre-harvest stage on the quality and storage life of 'Sultana Seedless' grapes

Abstract: Covering the grapevine rows to delay the maturity and harvest date became widely practiced in 'Sultana Seedless' vineyards. The research work was conducted to test different cover materials (polypropylene cross-stitch, life pack, mogul and transparent polyethylene) in respect to their effects on grape quality and storability. Harvest was delayed for one month in covered plots. Harvested grapes were packed and transferred to storage rooms after pre-cooling. During packing, the grape clusters were sealed in PE b… Show more

“…Numerous researches of the nutrition of centenarians in the southern regions have proved that 50-100 grams of dry wine per day favorably affect the body, as they are the source of a wide range of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants (Antonini et al, 2005;Stavridou et al, 2016;Johnson et al, 2006). Bioactive compounds and vitamins, which are part of the grape raw material, are unstable during storage (Baraboy, 2009;Sen and Kesgin, 2014;Crisosto and Mitchell, 2002). As a result, grape must be processed within a relatively short time after harvest.…”

“…The storage life of table grapes is influenced by the preharvest ecological conditions, fruit maturity at harvest and pre-cooling, SO 2 fumigation and storage conditions, including the temperature and relative humidity during post-harvest handling [20][21][22]. Grape deterioration during storage is characterized by weight loss, stem browning, softening, shattering and decay [23].…”
