Correlations between agronomic traits and path analysis for silage production in maize hybrids

Abstract: The aim of the current study is to estimate the correlation coefficients and the consequence of genotypic correlations on direct and indirect effects through path analysis between agronomic traits of maize hybrids used for silage production. Eight (8) topcross hybrids and seven (7) checks were analyzed in completely randomized blocks, with six replications, in two environments: Campos do Goytacazes and Itaocara counties-Rio de Janeiro State, in the crop year 2015/2016. The following agronomic traits were asses… Show more

“…Based on the path analysis, the traits of plant height, percentage of net yield, and cob weight became the supporting characters for yield. The positive direct effect of these traits has also been reported by Crevelari et al (2018) and Abduh et al (2021) for plant height, and Fadhli et al (2020) for cob weight. These three supporting characters can be combined and formulated into a selection index.…”

“…The choice of EW as the basic variable was due to its high genetic correlation with grain yield, commonly evaluated in kilos or tons per hectare (Alves, Cargnelutti Filho, Burin, & Toebe, 2017; Crevelari et al., 2018), and due to the higher experimental precision in the evaluation of this trait, comparing to grain yield. A considerable amount of grain is lost at the time of mechanical threshing, and grain mixing between plots can occur as grains from a previous treatment may be left inside the threshing machine.…”

“…Conforme foi confirmado por Crevelari et al (2018), quando se fala em correlações entre características de interesse agronômico, o rendimento da massa de forragem é uma variável considerada complexa que resulta da associação entre muitos caracteres. Do mesmo modo, o uso da análise de trilha facilita a seleção de caracteres que possam contribuir, de maneira indireta, para o aumento da massa de forragem.…”
