Show more

“…Urea and GGT have lower limits than those described by Hodgson et al (2014). Souza et al (2016) found wider reference ranges for AST, CK, urea, and creatinine in Campeiro horses than those observed in the Brazilian sport horses of this work. This difference can be explained by the homogeneity in management of the horses used in this study, which have the same diet, housing, and training protocol.…”

“…Blood values are affected by different factors such as individual variations, breed, and level of training (Barrelet and Ricketts, 2002). It is important to note the differences in normal values found in this study as compared with other reports (Hodgson et al, 2014;Souza et al 2016). …”

“…The groups treated with haylage presented a discrete decrease that persisted for three weeks (T1, T2 and T3). Mean values observed in both G1 and G2 ranged respectively from 200.43U/L to 259.97U/L and 138.39U/L to 230.23U/L, similarly to those reported by Souza et al (2016) of 140U/L and Padilha et al (2017) with means of 246.34U/L. According to Kaneko & Harvey (1997) all values remained within the normal range (226-366 U/L).…”

“…G1 mean levels were from 5.72 to 9.23U/L, while G2 from 6.77 to 15.24U/L. Previous reports indicate mean values between 5.13 U/L (Souza et al 2016) and 12.6U/L (Ural et al 2009). According to Kaneko & Harvey (1997) all values remained within the normal range (3-23U/L).…”

“…The Campeiro horse is locally adapted in the Planalto Serrano Catarinense region (southern Brazil) and has a characteristic gaited to be credited to exist organic adaptations to the environment, as they were observed in other studies (Fonteque et al, 2016;Souza et al, 2016). Therefore, knowledge of protein fractions that make up the serum protein profile, its proportions and the influence of biological factors associated in sex, age, reproductive period (Miller et al, 1998), are necessary for knowledge of the physiologic standards of the race and its variations.…”
