Laparoscopic ovum pick-up in spotted paca ( Cuniculus pacas )

Abstract: The aim of this work is study the laparoscopic ovum pick-up (LapOPU) technique in spotted paca, describing surgery details, complications and oocyte recovery rate. Nine healthy adult non-pregnant captive females were used, in a total of 39 procedures. When the surgical plane of anaesthesia was achieved, the females were positioned at 20º Trendelenburg. Three 6mm trocars were placed on right and left inguinal and hypogastric regions. Abdomen was inflated with CO 2 and the intra-abdominal pressure was stablished… Show more

“…The oocytes recovery for each animal was performed by LOPU (Barros et al, ) in a minimal interval of 15 days between periods and always 24–26 hr after hormonal protocol. For follicular punctures, an 18‐gauge 3.5‐inch‐long with a short bevel needle attached to a vacuum system with pressure not exceeding 65 mmHg was used.…”

“…Once on surgical plane, the animals were randomly chosen to receive IM tramadol 5mg/kg (TRA), methadone 0.5mg/kg (MET) or saline placebo 0.1mL/kg (CON), with the evaluators blinded to the treatment. After 15 minutes of stable plane of anesthesia, laparoscopic ovum pick-up (LOPU) was performed as described by Barros et al (2016).…”
